Description

JTS JS-1 USB Studio Large Diaphragm Condenser Recording Microphone w/case Really nice microphone for the home studio, or really, anywhere you want to record since you can make a laptop your recording studio. I bought this mike hardly used and it is in excellent condition and includes a slip on windscreen too. Having everything in a padded hard case will keep the mike out of trouble. In this price range it would be hard to do better. The JS-1 is the USB version of their JS-1E. There is no pad or roll off, but you can do that on the PC so why bother. I have a lot of mikes and do a variety of recording, and each mike has its characteristics. In the photos you can see the Cardiod pattern of the mike and frequency response. But even better I tested the mike with my desktop and recorded myself with my top of the line hohner Imperator 5 which has a lot of reeds and a big sound. So I'll let the microphone speak for itself. I did not use the wind screen and just set the mike on its included tripod on my desk and spoke (from a distance since the accordion is big) and the accordion was about 1.5 feet away. I had the input level on windows 10 2.0 audio codec set to about 90 %. So the input level is pushed up pretty high to start with. If you are podcasting and right in front of the mike then you won't need that much push. (1) jts mike demo - YouTube The accordion has a big sound and a complex one and I think all the subtlties of the piano side voices I used as well as the bass reeds and the accompaniment bass side chord reeds come through very well. In the last phrase I am using the full complement of reeds. 5 solo voice reed sets (1 low - bassoon in tone chamber, 3 medium (clarinets slightly detuned for the rich sound with the main clarinet in tone chamber, and 1 high reed - piccolo. So 3 octaves of voices.) On the bass side it uses 5 sets of accompaniment reeds - 1 tuba in tone chamber and then 2 octaves of chords. The instrument can play any style of music, and in this case, since its like wearing a reed organ on your chest, I play Nearer my God to thee. If I didn't have 4 sets of condensers and a ribbon mike I might have kept it. Since I usually do video too, my mikes go straight into the phantom powered XLRs on the camera. If its a bigger set up then the mikes go to a mixer and the mixer outs go to the xlr ins on the camera.
